It's Lockdown Period and we are not able to source fruits and vegetables essential for our well-being and immunity. What do we do now? How do we make up for nutritional deficiencies in these tough times? Without optimal nutrient intake, we are more susceptible to a pathogen attack. So, the answer lies in "Supplementation".
ACTION-PLAN
Anti-Oxidants: Recommended to take Vit.C
tablets (500mg/day). They are the perfect "immunity boosters".
Vit.B-12: Supplementation with this vitamin is very important for sustainable good health. It is a crucial nutrient for our nervous system and the development of RBC's. For vegetarians, at least 500 micro-gram daily supplement is recommended.
B-complex vitamins: This group of nutrients is required to transform food into energy, maintain a strong immune system, and perform a variety of other tasks. Any trusted brand once a day helps.
Vit.D: If you spend 20 minutes per day in the sun, then no supplementation is required. If you are completely housebound then a multi-vitamin with 400 IU of Vit.D is recommended.
Vit.E: It is another potent antioxidant nutrient that combats the effects of free radicals. One cannot get optimal amounts of this nutrient through food. Daily supplementation of 400 IU is recommended.
Mineral Supplementation: Spices used in an Indian household cover the mineral requirements very well. Use a good amount of cumin seeds, turmeric powder, fennel seeds, fenugreek seeds, dry fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi), bay leaf, cinnamon, black pepper, red pepper, mace, cloves, ginger powder, mango powder according to your taste.
